Artist Profile
Murasaki
Murasaki was originally formed by keyboardist George Murasaki in late 1970 on the island of Okinawa. The band made its debut performance in mainland Japan in 1975, headlining an outdoor concert hosted by Yamaha in Osaka. When the band came on stage, some 6,000 raving rock fans rushed to the front of the stage in excitement. Following this spectacular debut and subsequent performances in Tokyo and other parts of Japan, Murasaki released its self-titled debut album "MURASAKI" and 2nd album "Impact' in 1976. After disbanding once in 1978, the band went through several reunions, after which the current line up formed in 2007 with original members George Murasaki, Chibi (drummer), Kiyomasa (guitarist), and GG (guitarist), followed by new recruits JJ (lead vocalist) and Chris (bass). The new unit has since gone on to release albums titled "PURPLESSENCE," "EYES WIDE OPEN," and "QUASAR." Recently, Murasaki's self-titled documentary film "MURASAKI" was completed and premiered in Okinawa in 2022, followed by nationwide screening in January 2023.
