HIHOKANWho are Hihokan?
Hihokan is an evolutionary free jazz band formed in 2010 by a diverse group of dynamic musicians. A technically virtuoso jazz unit, Hihokan is one of the most anticipated groups in Tokyo today with the lavish theatricality of its individual members, the maxed-out energy of its pop sounds, and a constantly transforming line-up, including traditional Japanese instruments. The band's live concerts have been graced by numerous famed guest performers, such as Akira Sakata, Koichi Makigami and Tomotaka Imamichi, showing audiences an utterly different musical personality at each gig. The breadth of its catalog is the key to Hihokan's overwhelming sound, featuring both original songs, explosive free-style improv, and covers of standard numbers, as well as pop music and anthems far removed from the definitions of regular jazz. The name "Hihokan" itself is a neologism, meaning a sense of treasure that is hidden.
