Rie began to play the piano taught by her mother, a piano teacher, at the age of 4 and began to play the violin at the age of 6. When she was in the first grade of high school, she encountered chorus, which completely changed her perspective on music. Rie graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Music, majoring in violin. She composed music for the radio dramas Niji no Megami and Tokyo Ansokubi produced by Shunji Iwai.
Currently, she performs in a wide range of genres, including studio recordings, TV recordings, etc. Rie also performs as a supporting artist of various genre, and appears weekly in the LIVE in the DARK - w/Quartet-,a collaborative performance of live string quartet and video at the Konica Minolta Planetarium in Tokyo Sky Tree. She also teaches younger students. She is also active as a viola player, chorus player and arranger. In addition to her solo activities, she plays in the trio adagio with Miho Ota and Yoko Komatsu, and the string quartet Kokon Quartet.
