Shingo Maeyama
Shingo Maeyama was born in Naze, Amami-Oshima Island in 1983. From junior high school to high school, he was interested in rock and black music and started playing the guitar by himself. At the age of 19, he was shocked by the Shima-Uta (Amami folk music) that he happened to hear one day and entered the world of the traditional music of Amami. He studied under Hisako Ishihara, a singer from Uken Village, and learned many songs and lyrics. After winning essential prizes as a Shima-Uta singer, he expanded his activities all over Japan as well as overseas. The countries he has visited to perform include the USA, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Australia. In 2016, he collaborated with another singer from Amami, Anna Sato, and performed in New York. In 2018, his version of a song was used in the NHK historical drama series "Sego Don". In addition to collaborating with various musicians and performing at elementary and junior high schools, he continues to work vigorously while working as a care manager at a local long-term care health facility.
